Overview

External cladding does two jobs at once — it protects the structure of your home from weather and defines the character of the street. Get it wrong and you are looking at rotting timber, failed sealants and expensive rectification within a decade. Get it right and you have a home that looks better every year. Timber weatherboard is the classic Central Coast look — cedar, cypress pine or hardwood weatherboards run horizontally with shadow lines, painted or oiled to suit. It ages beautifully when detailed correctly, with proper end-cuts, sealed penetrations and a maintained coating system. We install genuine profile boards from established manufacturers, not the cheap knock-offs that cup and split in the first summer.

Composite cladding (Weathertex, Cemintel, James Hardie Linea, Scyon Axon) is a strong option for owners who want a timber or shiplap look with lower maintenance and better fire performance. We install every major system on the Central Coast, with the correct battening, expansion joints, flashings and end details specified by the manufacturer. Warranty compliance depends on installation to spec — cutting corners on flashings or fixings voids the warranty.

Fibre-cement sheet cladding (Scyon Matrix, Stria, EasyLap, Axon panel) gives a modern architectural look for contemporary Central Coast builds. Sheet layouts need careful setout so joints align with window and door openings; we plan the elevations before installation so nothing reads as accidentally offset. Express joints, shadow lines and colour selection all matter.

Aluminium and metal cladding — from standing-seam Colorbond to VMZinc and interlocking panels — is increasingly popular for feature walls and modern extensions. We coordinate with roof plumbers and licensed installers where required, and detail flashings and terminations for genuine long-term weathertightness.

Salt air is the killer on Central Coast cladding. Within 1km of the surf, fixings that would be fine inland corrode in years. We spec 316 marine-grade stainless-steel fasteners for exposed positions, hot-dipped galvanised for sheltered zones, and never use standard galvanised nails on coastal jobs. Aluminium flashings are marine-grade powder-coated; timber trims are pre-oiled or pre-primed on all four sides before installation.

Building wrap and drained cavity systems are non-negotiable. Every cladding install we do runs breather-type building membrane (Bradford Enviroseal, ProctorWrap or equivalent) over the frame, cavity battens where the system requires them (increasingly standard under the NCC), and proper flashings around every window, door, penetration and roof-to-wall junction. This is what stops water tracking into the frame — invisible after cladding goes on, catastrophic if skipped.

Re-clads on existing homes are a big part of our work — stripping tired asbestos, weatherboard or old fibre-cement (asbestos is handled by a licensed removalist under NSW WorkCover requirements), upgrading building wrap and insulation while walls are open, installing new windows or doors if the owner wants them, then cladding fresh in a modern system. The result is a substantially warmer, drier, better-looking home without a full demolition.

Yes. We remove the old cladding, inspect and repair any framing or sarking issues, install new breathable wrap and flashings, then install your new cladding system.
