Kitchen Renovations

Overview

A kitchen renovation is the single most valuable improvement most Central Coast homeowners make, and it is also the one that gets rushed and regretted more than any other. Shore Carpentry runs full kitchen renovations across the Central Coast — from Terrigal and Avoca through Erina, Gosford, Wyoming and up to The Entrance — with in-house carpentry, project management and licensed trades so your kitchen is finished on program, on budget and to a standard that lasts twenty years.

Every kitchen starts with a free on-site consultation. We measure the space, talk through how you cook and entertain, discuss appliance choices, and produce a fixed-price quote covering design, joinery, demolition, plumbing, electrical, tiling, plastering and painting. There are no vague allowances or PC items hidden in the contract — every fixture, fitting and finish is specified upfront.

The layout is the single biggest lever in a kitchen renovation. Small changes — moving the fridge to the pantry wall, opening up a servery, extending a bench 300mm to fit a proper island — transform how the space works. We look at work triangles, circulation with two cooks, dish landing zones, appliance clearances, and how the kitchen connects to dining, living and outdoor areas. Where structural walls are involved we work with an engineer to spec beams and posts and manage the certification.

Joinery is where a kitchen either looks premium or looks tired within five years. We work with local Central Coast cabinetmakers using quality substrate (18mm Laminex or Polytec HMR board, or premium Egger for architectural finishes), Blum hardware throughout (soft-close hinges, tandem drawer runners, Servo-Drive on select bins), and edge-banded finishes that do not chip or lift. Stone benchtops are template-cut and installed by specialist stonemasons — engineered stone, natural stone or porcelain slabs depending on your look and budget.

Splashbacks, tiling and flooring are handled by licensed tilers we have worked with for years. We coordinate the sequencing tightly: rough-ins first, plaster, floor tiling, cabinetry install, stone template, stone install, splashback tiling, appliance connection, final electrical and plumbing, then paint and handover. Well-run sequencing is what separates a 4-week renovation from an 8-week one.

Electrical and plumbing changes are handled by licensed subcontractors with full compliance certificates. Common upgrades include dedicated circuits for induction cooktops, integrated appliance switching, under-cabinet LED strip lighting, downlights on dimmer, filtered drinking water taps, boiling/chilled taps like Zip HydroTap, and dishwasher isolation valves. Everything is certified and documented.

Appliance selection matters more than most owners realise. We are happy to work with your preferred brand — Miele, Bosch, Fisher & Paykel, Smeg, Westinghouse — but we will flag anything that is going to cause install headaches or clearance issues before you buy. Integrated fridges, freezers and dishwashers need cabinetry planned around them from day one.

Timelines run 4-8 weeks on site for most full kitchen renovations, plus 4-6 weeks of joinery lead time from measure to install. We supply a written build program before demolition starts, and communicate weekly progress with photos so you always know what is happening — critical when you are living without a kitchen for a month.

Shore Carpentry is a licensed and insured NSW builder with 20+ years on Central Coast homes. Every kitchen carries a written workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer warranties on stone, joinery and appliances. If you are weighing up a full renovation, a smart refresh, or a knock-through into the dining room, book a free on-site consultation and we will give you honest design advice, a fixed-price contract and a realistic timeline before you commit.

Common questions

How much does a kitchen renovation cost on the Central Coast?
A basic refit with laminate joinery and engineered stone starts around $25,000-35,000. Mid-range kitchens with quality 2-pack joinery, premium appliances and stone typically run $45,000-75,000. Premium designer kitchens with custom joinery, stone or porcelain benchtops and integrated appliances go $80,000+. Every quote is fixed-price with no hidden allowances.
How long will I be without a kitchen?
Most full kitchen renovations run 4-8 weeks on site, with joinery installed around week 3-4. We arrange a temporary cooking setup (kettle, microwave, portable induction, bar fridge) in another room so daily life continues. Weekly photo updates keep you across progress.
Do I need to move out during a kitchen renovation?
Almost never. We isolate the work area with dust protection, run wet trades early in the day, and clean up daily. Bathrooms and bedrooms stay useable throughout.
Can you work with my designer or supply your own?
Both. We work with architects, kitchen designers and interior designers regularly, and we can also handle design in-house with our cabinetmakers if you prefer a single point of contact.
What warranty do you offer?
Written 6-year structural workmanship warranty (statutory NSW minimum), plus manufacturer warranties on stone (typically 10-15 years), Blum hardware (lifetime), appliances (2-5 years), and coatings/finishes. We register every warranty in your handover pack.
