Overview

Custom carpentry is where our team twenty years of experience really shows. It is the joinery, built-ins and one-off projects that do not come out of a catalogue — the pieces that turn a house into your house. Shore Carpentry designs and builds custom carpentry across the Central Coast, from single feature pieces to whole-home fitout: built-in wardrobes, entertainment units, window seats, alcove bookshelves, mudrooms, walk-in pantries, staircases, wine rooms, feature walls and architectural timber detailing.

Every custom piece starts with a free on-site consultation. We measure the space, discuss how you want it to work, look at existing detailing so the new joinery reads as part of the house rather than an add-on, and produce a fixed-price quote with drawings so you know exactly what you are getting before build starts. Small runs of joinery are built off-site in our workshop and installed clean; larger site-built work like staircases and window seats is measured and cut on site for a perfect fit.

Built-in wardrobes and walk-in robes are one of our most common requests. We build shaker, flat-panel and grooved profiles in Laminex, Polytec or 2-pack painted MDF, with Blum soft-close hardware throughout, custom drawer inserts, pull-out shoe racks, hanging rails at correct heights, and full-height mirror or louvre door options. Every install is scribed to the wall and ceiling so there are no gap fillers or shadow lines where there should not be.

Living and entertainment joinery — TV walls, media units, alcove bookshelves flanking fireplaces, floating shelves with concealed brackets — is where we can make the biggest visual impact for the least structural work. Good detailing (equal reveals, aligned finger pulls, matching wood grain across doors, shadow gaps that actually run straight) is what separates joinery that looks premium from joinery that looks flat-pack.

Staircases are structural carpentry at its most visible. We build cut-string, closed-string and open-riser staircases in hardwood, oak or painted MDF, with steel stringers where the design calls for it. Handrails, balusters, glass panels and treads are all detailed to comply with the National Construction Code — going rise, tread depth, balustrade height and gap sizing all matter, and inspectors will pick up anything that does not measure up.

Kitchen and butler pantry joinery, mudroom benches with hooks and drawers, home-office desks and shelving, laundry cabinetry with dog wash bays, wine cellars with racking, custom bar cabinetry — anything you would normally have to compromise on with off-the-shelf furniture, we can build to fit the space perfectly. Working with local Central Coast cabinetmakers we can match any finish, any colour and any hardware brand you want.

Architectural timber detailing — panelled feature walls, VJ lining boards, hardwood beams and posts, ceiling battens, timber archways and skirting/architrave upgrades — is where a plain builders-standard home starts to feel considered. We are happy to work with your architect or interior designer, or to sketch options ourselves if you are renovating without one.

Every custom job is built to last. Structural carcasses are 18mm HMR board or ply, not particleboard; hardware is Blum, Hettich or Hafele; finishes are 2-pack or edge-banded to hide substrate; and joins are engineered so shelves do not sag under weight and drawers glide smoothly for decades. We back every piece with a written workmanship warranty on top of the manufacturer hardware warranty.

Common questions

How much do built-in wardrobes cost?

A basic 2.4m built-in wardrobe with laminate doors and standard hardware starts around $2,800-4,500. Mid-range wardrobes with 2-pack painted doors, custom drawers and quality Blum hardware run $5,000-8,500. Full walk-in robes with island benches and premium finishes go higher. Fixed-price after on-site measure.

Can you match existing joinery in an older home?

Yes — matching profiles, timber species, paint colours and hardware is standard work for us. Bring us photos or samples and we replicate the detail so new work reads as part of the original home.

Do you design or work from someone else designs?

Both. We do plenty of design in-house for straightforward built-ins and joinery, and we work regularly with architects and interior designers on more complex or whole-home projects.

How long does custom joinery take?

Design and measure typically takes 1-2 weeks. Workshop build takes 3-6 weeks depending on complexity and finish. Install is usually 1-3 days. We give you a written program before ordering material.

What finishes do you offer?

Laminate (Laminex, Polytec, Egger), 2-pack painted MDF in any Dulux colour, timber veneer, real timber, high-gloss and matte finishes, and specialty finishes like woodgrain textured or fingerprint-resistant super-matte. We can bring samples to your consultation.
