New Picture Window & Weatherboard Cladding

This Umina Beach home had a dark room with one small window facing the best aspect on the block. The owners wanted a large picture window to bring in light and view, which meant structural work to the wall and new cladding to finish it.

We framed the new opening, installing a lintel sized to carry the loads above and trimming the studs correctly around it. The picture window was installed with a full flashing and sill detail, then the surrounding wall was re-clad in weatherboard, cut in neatly to the existing cladding lines so the change reads as original rather than patched. Getting cladding courses to line up across a new opening is fiddly work and it is immediately obvious from the street when it has not been done carefully.

The room went from dim to bright in a day, and the new cladding lifted the whole elevation. Combining window installation with cladding in one visit avoids double-handling scaffolding and weather protection, which keeps the cost down for the owner.
