Roof Truss Installation on a New Home

Truss day is one of the highest-stakes days on any new home build. A crane is on site, the trusses arrive as a single delivery, and everything has to be right before the load is released.

On this Tuggerah new build we prepared the top plates, marked out every truss position, and set up the bracing and temporary props before the crane arrived. Trusses were craned in, positioned to the marks, plumbed and fixed with the specified truss brackets and tie-downs. Getting spacing and plumb correct at this stage is what allows battens, sarking and roof sheeting to run straight later, and it is also what keeps the roof structure performing in high wind.

Bracing and tie-down were installed to the engineered layout rather than by eye, and the whole roof was checked over before the crane left site. The frame went from wall plates to a fully braced roof structure in a single day, keeping the builder's program on track.
