Wood-Fired Pizza Oven & Entertaining Area

A wood-fired oven is a centrepiece, but only if the space around it is right. This Erina backyard had room for one, and the owners wanted it built into a proper entertaining setting rather than parked on a slab at the end of the lawn.

We built the surround and adjacent entertaining structure with the fire in mind from the first line on the plan: correct clearances to combustible materials, a solid non-combustible base, and bench space positioned so dough can be prepped and pizzas launched without anyone reaching across the fire opening. Timber elements were kept clear of the heat zone and the structural framing was sized to carry the oven mass safely.

The finished area works as a genuine outdoor kitchen. Firewood storage was built in below the bench so it stays dry and out of sight, and the layout leaves comfortable circulation space for a crowd. It is a good example of outdoor living where the fun feature and the practical detail were resolved together, which is exactly what separates a professional build from a weekend project.
