Composite Spa Deck & Bench Seating

A low-maintenance composite spa deck in Terrigal with integrated steps and built-in bench seating wrapped around the hot tub.

Composite timber spa deck with steps and hot tub

Project overview

The owners of this Terrigal home had a spa sitting awkwardly on a concrete pad with no safe step up and nowhere to sit. They wanted a proper deck that made the spa feel built-in rather than bolted on, without adding another timber surface they would need to sand and oil every summer.

We designed and built a composite spa deck that steps up in two levels, bringing the spa lip flush with the deck surface so it can be entered safely and comfortably. The frame is treated hardwood on galvanised stirrups, engineered to carry the considerable filled weight of a spa. Composite boards were chosen because Terrigal is only a few streets back from the beach, and salt air is brutal on softwood. Built-in bench seating wraps two sides, giving the family somewhere to sit and towel off without cluttering the space with outdoor furniture.

The result is a genuine outdoor room the family uses year-round, with no annual re-oiling and no splinters underfoot. Careful drainage falls were set into the substructure so water sheds away from the house rather than pooling under the spa.
