Restored Ornate Carved Timber Doors

These carved timber double doors were the best thing about the property and they were close to unusable — dropped on their hinges, binding in the frame, and weathered where the finish had failed. Replacing them was never an option; doors like this cannot be bought off a shelf.

We restored and re-hung the pair, correcting the frame and adjusting the doors so they open and close cleanly and latch properly for the first time in years. Hanging heavy carved doors is precision work — the hinge geometry has to carry serious weight without dropping, and the margins around a decorative door are far more visible than on a plain one. The surrounding timber wall was worked in with the doors so everything lines up as a single composition.

The result kept a genuinely unique feature in the home and gave it decades more life. Restoration work like this is one of the more satisfying parts of carpentry, and it is almost always better value than replacement. We do door restoration and hanging throughout Woy Woy and the Central Coast.
