Timber Feature Wall with TV Niche

A timber-clad feature wall with a recessed TV niche and concealed cabling, built in a Terrigal living room.

Timber-clad feature wall with recessed TV niche

Project overview

This Terrigal living room had a large blank wall, a television mounted on a bracket, and a tangle of visible cables. The owners wanted the TV to stop dominating the room without hiding it behind a cabinet door.

We designed and built a full-height timber-clad feature wall with a recessed niche sized precisely to the television, so the screen sits flush within the timber rather than projecting off it. Cabling and power were run within the wall build-up and terminated inside the niche, eliminating every visible cord. Battens were set out so the spacing runs evenly wall-to-wall and lands cleanly at both ends — the detail nobody consciously notices, but everyone notices when it is wrong.

The timber was selected and finished to work with the room's existing flooring and light. The finished wall gives the space a warm focal point and makes the television feel like part of the architecture instead of an appliance stuck to the plaster. It is a compact joinery project that completely changes the feel of a main living area.
